How good is a rich avocado diet?

5 easy and delicious ways to include more avocados in your diet

Avocados are known around the world as a sort of super fruit, and their reputation is well deserved. They are chalked full of a super amount of protein, fiber, vitamins B, C, E, and K (to name a few), as well as cancer fighting anti-oxidants.

That’s all well and good – but their taste? Delicious. Mild and subtle, with low counts of sugar and naturally gluten-free, avocados are a wonderful presence in any healthy diet. In fact, for those trying lose weight, studies have shown that the healthy fats in avocados digest at a specifically slower rate, which in turn keeps the “full” feeling lasting longer, while also maintaining blood sugar stability. For those trying to gain weight, the flexibility of avocados as an addition to many different meals makes it a great supplement in a high calorie diet.

Zouq - AvocadosCultivated in tropical and Mediterranean climates, avocados are botanically a large berry with a single seed in the center. As they are a strong source of protein and healthy monosaturated fats, the fruit is very popular in vegetarian diets. However, avocados are so versatile that they can be incorporated in a daily diet in a variety of ways – for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even as an appetizer or dessert.

1. Guacamole – the most famous avocado dish, for a great dip appetizer or snack, simply scoop out the avocado into a mixing bowl, mash to desired smooth/ chunky level and add to taste lemon or lime juice, cilantro, onions, and/ or tomatoes.

2. Sandwich or toast spread – for breakfast, spread thinly sliced or mashed avocado as your toast topping. For lunch, mix mashed avocado with cooled hardboiled eggs for an avocado-egg salad sandwich.

3. Salad topping – avocados make for great salad toppings: slice avocado into small bite sized pieces and add to your favorite salad in place of meats or in addition.

4. Ice cream/ smoothie – by blending together low fat milk, avocados, some lemon or lime juice, and just a little bit of sugar to taste, you can then freeze your blend making a delicious ice cream or blend in some ice and drink as a refreshing smoothie!

5. Quick snack – simply sliced and untouched avocado can be a great summer snack. Quick to prepare and with a smooth, refreshing taste, plain avocado slices are perfect for in between meals.

Subtle, light, and delicious, avocados bring a great tasting experience to any palette. Perfect for spring and summer outings and snacking, avocado’s smooth and soft texture pairs up nicely with a crunchy, zesty partner snack.
